General Rules & Policies
To ensure the safety of customers and employees, we ask visitors to observe the following rules and policies at our facilities.
Facility Wide
- No cell phone use upon entering
- Observe posted speed limits
- No smoking
- Children and pets must stay in the car
- Stay within 3 ft. of your vehicle
- No scavenging waste
- Staff is not authorized to assist with unloading
- Vehicles are subject to random inspection by staff
- Heavy equipment has the right of way
- Alcoholic beverages & illegal drugs are not permitted
- Those exhibiting unsafe behavior or acting in an unprofessional manner may be asked to leave the facility
- Metro Waste Authority assumes no liability for damage to vehicles resulting from towing or otherwise disabled vehicles
- Customers must be off the premises of MPE no more than 30 minutes after closing time or are subject to a charge of $35 per every 15 minute increment for the first 60 minutes past this time; and $225 per 15 minute increments after that

Landfill Area
- A Class 2 Hi-Vis Safety Vest must be worn at all times to access the landfill. Customers are welcome to bring their own or they are available in the scale house for $10/vest
- Follow traffic director's instructions
- No standing or walking under raised hopper
- No riding on hoppers
- Place removable gates in from of vehicle while unloading
- Remove garbage from unenclosed areas before exiting unloading area
- Secure vehicle to prevent littering when exiting
- Secure all gates & doors before exiting
- Drivers are responsible for damages to gates and and vehicles
- Turn boxes & clean out hoppers and remove/replace tarps in designated areas only
- Miscoding of materials by commercial haulers may result in a fine

Commercial CRT
By law, business cannot dispose of hazardous waste in landfills. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that color Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) are hazardous material. As a result, Metro Waste Authority does not permit color CRTs from commercial loads to be disposed of in the landfill.

Secured Loads
To reduce litter and prevent accidents and injury, Metro Waste Authority requires all waste/recyclables delivered to our facilities be fully secured, enclosed and/or covered (preferably tarped), so loose materials cannot fall or be blown from the vehicle.
Any vehicle arriving at a Metro Waste Authority facility with unsecured loads will be charged a violation fee in addition to the regular disposal and recycling rates.
- Large vehicles (more than 25,000 lbs.) $100
- Small vehicles (less than 25,000 lbs.) $25
Securing the Load Properly
Rope, cord, twine, bungee cords or tie downs are acceptable alternatives to tarping for loads consisting of large, bulky items (appliances, sofas, etc.) The Scale House staff may need to make a determination regarding whether a load is adequately secured.
Commercial Vehicles
- Rear-load trucks do not require tarping of the hopper if the hauler has extended the blade to completely cover the waste and if no waste is transported in the hopper.
- Front-load trucks do not require tarping of the receiving hopper if an alternate material (i.e., metal) is used to totally enclose the opening. An attached front-load bin does not require tarping if there is no waste in the bin.
- Roll-off container loads must be secured. Most haulers have automated tarping devices. A tarp must be used for all open-top, roll-off containers. Enclosed roll-off compactor containers require a tarp or other material to be used on the opening.
